Today we pretended

We pretended that it was summer outside. We made popsicles that would melt so fast that we had to lick and lick just to keep the popsicles from staining our clothes.

Then we realized that it was a dream.

A dream that we didn't want to wake up from. But because it wasn't summer and because the sun rays weren't melting our popsicles we could only spend a few minutes outside.

Outside where the snow was not budging even when the sun hit it and we hoped it would melt into the grass. And that the mud would dry up so we could play without getting shoes dirty.

Then we remembered. That we now live in Idaho. Maybe that is what summers are like in Idaho where somedays there are snow covered spots in our backyard and this year we would live to tell the tale of the Idaho summers and we all shivered in hopes that we were wrong. Snow would really be gone until the winter.

Then we cried.

And we longed for summer days and no more snow.

Then we tuckered out and fell asleep because pretending takes a lot of energy.
